RetroI do seem to have been drawn to this style of surfboard from an early stage in my shaping career. When I first started shaping in the late seventies there was a resurgence of the fish design in California led by surfers such as Clyde Beatty. I shaped several of these Rocket Fish boards in my very early days. It was quite obvious that these boards went a lot faster, in our waves, than the then popular single fin pintail. Through the late nineties and up till now I seem to be shaping more and more fish. This year we have introduced The Keel fin fish with wooden fins. The plan shape is seventies but they have more modern rails and foil, thinner in the nose for duck diving. They are also more foiled out in the tail for extra bite in the turns. The fins in the Keel fin model are toeed in and canted out for easier turns. |
